have you ever asked for a tax extension? once, in august,
i was visiting my boy-hood friend, pat southerland,
at his place of business -- washington, d.c.
in the heat and humidity of that season, he was working
furiously to file his income tax returns. i thought he was
a dis-organized idiot for filing so late
but then, a few years later, with this and that,
i started falling behind; so, i filed for a four-month extension;
of course, i didn't complete my return until august 15, the deadline
i was just like pat (a dis-organized idiot!); and once
i was in that pattern, i couldn't break out;
i always filed my return on august 15
in the last few years, i've regained control of my life,
so now, i file like everyone else --- on april 15,
day of prevarication . . and deep wounds
